Disappointing Start and then Excellent
On the whole, we had a lovely stay at this hotel - our 4th visit. The place itself is lovely and well kept, the food and the service excellent and all the staff so helpful and hard working. BUT the Check in is VERY POOR. When we last stayed in march 2025 we had to queue for about 40 minutes before we could check in and I was assured this was a one off occurrence, because everyone had by coincidence arrived together. Obviously it was not a one off because the same thing happened this time, and on talking to other guests, they complained about it as well. There are 4 positions at the front desk, so why are extra staff not available when there are a lot of people trying to check in. You just do not expect such a long delay at a hotel of this category and it is definitely the spoiler. It is a great pity and rather puts us off coming again. I could see that even the Receptionists who were doing their best were embarrassed and apologetic for the long wait standing in a queue with no seats or refreshments offered.
More than simply comfortable accommodation
Oulton Hall offers more than simply comfortable accommodation. It contains a 19th century Victorian Mansion that offers much to see and appreciate, such as impressive grand staircase and high-ceiling reception hall. The grounds also provide pleasant walks that still reflect much of the landscape vision established over 200 years ago. We had a pleasant one-night stay at the hotel while we took the opportunity to visit the nearby Wakefield Cathedral and Nostell House.
Beautiful hotel and staff
Lovely dining experience in the restaurant, high quality food and service. Greeted and seated by Lillian with a friendly smile and served by Izzy very friendly and professionally. Highly recommended staying at this beautiful hotel.
Well worth a visit, especially if you get a voucher deal!
This was a voucher deal spa experience for myself and three friends. It included cream tea, £35 towards evening meal, 4 drinks vouchers each and late check out. A real bargain! The staff were lovely and so helpful, I can't really fault them at all. It was very relaxing sitting in the lounge area, the staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were nice and clean and plenty big enough for a one night stay. I struggled with the evening meal as I don't eat meat and not a big fish lover and the pasta dish I chose had been slightly changed to include pumpkin, which I had never had, and don't think I will again! Although I wasn't keen on my meal, my friends seemed to really enjoy theirs. The dessert made up for it though, it was gorgeous. Because of the food allowance, I wasn't bothered that I hadn't enjoyed it all. I eat to live not live to eat! We then went in the bar to spend our vouchers! After Prosecco with the meal, we went on to gin and vodka and were pleasantly surprised to be served named drinks rather than the house stuff. We were served rather large gin glasses that take a bit of drinking so decided it might be better to have a double next time. This caused a problem as the young lady serving said she couldn't do this, something to do with mixers, but I didn't understand what the problem was as we would only be having one mixer with two gins? Anyway, we ended up not using all our vouchers as the bar closed quite early and then the four of us were the only people in the lounge! This is where my slight negative comments come in. I went to the ladies toilets, I didn't see any staff about at all. I felt very uncomfortable walking in as all the doors were closed and it was very quiet. Not a pleasant experience. I told my friends two should go together just to be safe! In the lounge a lot of the low windows were open and anybody could have climbed in - my imagination running wild again! My only other slight negative is the 'spa area'. It was quite busy in the pool with people with children and there seemed to be a lot of men going in the hot tub, one who's behaviour was very inappropriate and made us all feel uncomfortable. We didn't go in the sauna or steam rooms and we certainly didn't feel relaxed at all when we came out, so this wasn't quite what we expected of our 'spa break'. Apart from these few small niggles, we had a really nice time and I would certainly recommend it, especially if you get a good voucher deal! We will definitely be back. One small suggestion, possibly more outside seating? We only saw two tables with a couple of seats and stools and they were taken. Did we just not look hard enough? 🤣
Brilliant Food and Bar
Very lovely staff, food came quickly and was excellent quality. Very welcoming and friendly on a wedding day. Brilliant place for food.
A gorgeous , stunning , comfortable , a friendly and welcoming hotel
This is such a fabulous hotel , our student grandchildren ( from Leeds university ) loved it .Delicious food , delightful staff from the moment we checked in with delightful Sharon on reception , to the helpfulness of the Restaurent staff Lillian Rosie and Julia. .. and Ollie the maitre d’ whose warm welcome was so lovely . The Hotel atmosphere was warm and welcoming and we would definitely like to return . The room was very clean and comfortable, the maids really helpful , but I could not use the lovely shower as there was nothing to hold onto, a couple of grab rails would be good .. for all hotel showers for many people with balance issues. The gardens and colourful flowers were beautiful.
Oulton Hall overnight stay
We had a lovely overnight spa break at Oulton Hall Hotel and really enjoyed our stay. The overall experience was very good, from the beautiful surroundings and historic atmosphere of the hotel to the relaxing spa facilities. It was the perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy some quality time away. The room was comfortable, and the hotel had a lovely relaxing feel throughout. The spa was a great addition to the stay and made the overnight break feel extra special. The massage therapist Haleema was exceptionally great too as well as being warm and welcoming. Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience and would definitely consider returning for another relaxing getaway.
Stay at Oulton hall
Great service , junior suite was a superbly styled room. Grounds were stunning and plenty of parking. Evening meal had a great choice and food was served promptly and with a smile. The hotel was exceptionally busy as they had over 259 guests to manage. We were told that breakfast room may be manic so order breakfast to suite. We duly did and breakfast card was not. Collected. I had to chase breakfast and it was eventually brought to room 40 minutes after event but it did spoil the overall experience somewhat hence why I scored 4 and not 5. Bar areas were stunning too and very relaxed. Just a little attention to detail with requests such as breakfast served in room is all that is required! We did not get a tray charge .
A few days away
Lovely location we had afternoon tea when we arrived and. It was amazing All meals at the hotel were of a high standard Staff were all very pleasant and attentive. Our room and all public areas were at a high standard. Our only complaint was that we had to leave! We are already looking forward to our next visit.
Memorable afternoon tea
Robbie looked after us so well! He was professional & attentive. We had the afternoon tea & it was delicious. He explained all of the items & topped our drinks up regularly. Fabulous afternoon!
Great

The hotel has a beautiful setting and a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere, making it a great place to unwind and escape for a night. Our room was comfortable, and we really enjoyed the spa facilities, which made the stay feel extra special. Relaxing experience would highly recommend
Lovely hotel and spa facilities. Enjoyed my stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. The room was clean to a high standard as well.
Amazing Golf Break
I organised a golf break for 24 ladies and we had an amazing time from start to finish. The boys in the golf shop were super helpful, the hotel rooms were fantastic and the food in the Claret Jug was one of the best I’ve had on a golf break. I must mention Chris, the restaurant manager who couldn’t do enough for us along with Liv who served us. Definitely return without hesitation.
Fabulous stay
My husband and I recently had a 2 night bed & breakfast stay at Oulton Hall. We stayed in a Superior room which we found comfortable with a complimentary minibar and bathrobes. We both slept very well and found the room extremely quiet and were not disturbed by other guests. We enjoyed our afternoon tea, booked for my husband’s birthday. We did have to wait approx 30 minutes from sitting down due to a large 40th birthday but were informed of the delay and received complimentary drinks whilst we waited. The food available to order either in the champagne bar or calverly grill was great quality and the service was quick and efficient. We would like to personally thank Adrian in the bar and Yousef who served our afternoon tea for their hospitality. We both agreed that all the staff reception, housekeeping, spa and waiting could not be faulted they’re professional and friendly and we had a great experience. We will definitely return!
Fantastic stay
Had a wonderful stay, a beautiful place to stay at. In the lounge we were always well taken care of by Issam. On the very first day he came to our table full of enthusiasm, and he helped us wonderfully every day after that. Whenever he saw us, he would always come over to ask how we were doing and whether he could do anything for us. This definitely had a positive impact on our experience.
Anniversary celebration stay
We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. Our room was a “superior room” and was very nice itself, we were however disappointed with the view, it was on a corner, one way looked on to an adjacent wall of the hotel and the other way over a flat roof, this was despite informing the hotel at booking that it was a special celebration. We ate in the restaurant one night, I had steak, which was cooked as directed and nicely presented, however the cut of the meat was not worthy of the expensive price tag. We also booked our table for 7.15pm and it took 75 minutes for our meal to arrive, our ordered drinks needed 2 reminders as well. Internally the hotel is superb, the staff were also amazing and very cheerful, especially at breakfast. Two of the days there were weddings, and there was some noise disturbance and I am sure some of the delay in the restaurant was due to staff being diverted to the wedding, to the detriment of “normal” guests. That being said, I would definitely return to this hotel.
Enjoyable stay But >>>>
I have spent many happy stays at Oulton Hall over many years, its a Special place to me. My only frustration were that bathrobes are not provided in what are described as Classic rooms, only in the higher category rooms. I expressed my disappointment only to be told in what I felt were a somewhat patronising manner by the Resort Manager that I should either pay to use one if available or bring my . My purpose for the robe were to transit between the room and leisure centre and back again rather than have to change/unchange/ change. I were staying 3 nights so the robe would have been very useful. A member of the leisure centre told me many guests had referenced being unhappy to him not having use of a robe indeed one guest referenced this to me while in the jacuzzi. Oulton hall is a High Quality hotel. I were told by the leisure centre staff robes were provided for spa day guests where the money was made by the hotel, does my business not count ? We ate and drank in the hotel too. Of course Not all guests would necessarily need a robe for an overnight stay or if they don't use the leisure facilities but for those who do, I feel a hotel of the quality of Oulton hall should make them available to All guests who would find them a benefit. In Conclusion, I wouldn't have written this review had I not received an email by the Resort Manager requesting a review on TripAdvisor. It did cause a degree of frustration but did not distract from the overall satisfaction and fabulous service of the hotel staff who cannot be held accountable for company policy.
Relaxing Anniversary Weekend
Beautiful building nestled near Leeds. We booked for the purpose of a relaxed spa break for our anniversary and a little baby moon. The price was fantastic for what we got! The rooms were clean and well presented. The pool and spa were perfect for what we needed although small. There were free classes on at the gym and water aerobics too! The treatments were amazing. We didn't get the names of our technicians but they were fantastic at their jobs. Anyone wanting a pregnancy massage, I recommend. It was super relaxing. The food was delicious in the restaurant. Megan and Reece in particular were fantastic staff who looked after us both nights. And as we had the £35 each towards the menu, it felt like we were having free meals! Beautiful building and decorations. Lots of places to sit and have a drink or read a book. Would definitely recommend
Good hotel for a golf break/spa/dinner
Good hotel… great for a golf break. Paid for an upgrade to a suite which was worth the money. Good bar. Restaurant buzzing on a Tuesday evening is always nice. Our waitress, Isla, was lovely and made us feel very welcome.
Generally very good
Hotel was great and the golf course was too. Staff friendly and helpful. The only exception was the unhelpful and unfriendly ‘greeting’ in the golf club. Basic information was hard to come by (which holes, how to get to the start etc) and were told we couldn’t hire a buggy despite there being several when we left and many, many more when we got back. It felt like it was all too much hassle.
