Beautiful hotel
The location of the hotel was amazing, we stayed the night before we did the Emmerdale tour 30 minute drive away. The atmosphere of the hotel was beautiful, relaxing. We had a double room plenty of space the only down fall was we over looked all the bins, this did not ruin our stay. The hotel is spotless. We enjoyed the spa. The only thing I can really say which was a disappointment was people were smoking just outside the hotel door and there was quite a few butt ends in the beautiful plant pots the signage is not good enough to send them down the side where there is a ash tray is. But this does not reflect the quality of the hotel and the standard of service we received definitely will be returning
Great spa break
Lovely experience as usual. Been numerous times to Oulton Hall. Staff always friendly and polite. Hotel and the rooms are always nice and clean. Restaurant food for evening meal and breakfast is always really good. We use the spa which is always great. Good facilities available. I found the Relaxation Room was very messy with dirty towels and used cups everywhere which was disappointing to see. Will definitely return though
Measured review - overall a good stay
Lovely grounds and beautiful decor in reception and lobby areas. Great bar where stately manor meets contemporary feel. Good food at dinner and breakfast. Spa dated and very busy. Male restaurant staff on at breakfast miserable which was a stark contrast to female breakfast staff who were very friendly.
Very nice hotel
We stayed for one night, the hotel is very nice and room was very clean and a good size, lounge area was comfortable, breakfast was very nice although there was a delay in all breakfast items coming to the area causing a que, cost of stay was very reasonable, and would stay again
Excellent dining experience
Excellent dining room experience and excellent service from a very well spoken, polite and friendly waiting staff, Izzy and Izzy.
Oulton Hall is the perfect getaway for us - Pros and cons just like everywhere but we will always come back!
My boyfriend and I often visit Oulton Hall hotel when we feel we need a break from modern life. We absolutely love staying in this Grade 2 listed building dating back to the 18th century and it always wows us whenever we stay - it is a beautiful piece of 18th century architecture and Engineering. Pros: - Stunning historical architecture and original features in and outside of the building. - Gorgeous maintained gardens and fountain. - Nature in its back gardens. - Plenty parking. - Hot breakfast options are tasty and good for vegetarians. - Bread and pastries/fresh juices and cereal options are wonderful. - Beautiful room and bathroom. - Complimentary water. - Comfortable bed. - Bar and lounge areas are beautiful and comfy. - Front of house staff are relatively friendly. - What appeared to be a senior member of staff/management (gentleman) was very friendly and helped me find my room! - Cleaning staff are exceptionally friendly. - The young lady who looked after us at dinner was such a pro and so warm and attentive (wish I got her name). Cons: -3 O'clock check in could be reduced to 2pm and check out at 12 rather than 11 will give you more time to relax and enjoy the hotel amenities and more time to decompress from the pressures of everyday life. - Check in can get busy which can trigger weary travelers who just want to make their most of their time away. - Treatment availability - I've never been able to enjoy a treatment unfortunately as I have never been lucky enough to secure an appointment (sometimes we book the hotel at last minute) I'm not sure how to resolve this (I'm not actually sure how to book a treatment prior). - Buffet breakfast is hard to keep hot so perhaps more emphasis on food rotation. - We get dressed up for Dinner but then were sat next to a couple wearing flip flops so perhaps a stricter dress code for the restaurant. - Always too many people in the spa - particularly the hot tub - not sure on a resolution for this - I don't think there is a lot you can do unfortunately. - Children in the spa (always a bugbear of mine in any spa hotel) the times children are allowed in is not proportionate to the time you have to relax in the spa and leaving in time to get ready for dinner - perhaps a shorter window for children's access to the spa might resolve this. - Phones in the spa - another issue I have is people using their phones to take selfies etc whilst other people are in the same vicinity, clad in swimwear is quite an intimate occasion for a lot of people and therefore you are no longer relaxing rather more stressing incase you end up in the background of somebody's Instagram post. To be fair to the management and staff of this hotel and being frankly honest the hotel is beautiful and the facilities are great and the food is lovely - For the slight cons that we have experienced generally rely on the good grace of other guests which is a very difficult balance for a hotel to manage as they need to cater for everybody's needs which is in itself difficult for example people on loud speaker on their phones during dinner or breakfast and children watching iPads without headphones - call me old fashioned or am I just well mannered? We will certainly continue to come back to Oulton Hall as it has become a special place for my boyfriend and I to come and get away from it all and it holds a special place in our hearts now - despite a few little qualms listed above we still love our weekends away at Oulton Hall and always recommend it to friends and family so for all the great times we have experienced at the hotel, thank you for all your hard work and I hope we see you again very soon.
Yorkshire at it’s finest
A lovely leisurely break in beautiful surroundings. The service was exceptional and the hotel very well maintained. We brought our dogs who enjoyed the facilities and friendly dog-loving nature of the hotel A special shout out for Imogen who looked after us for supper.
Beautiful hotel, service below expectations
Pros The hotel itself is very beautiful. The interiors are stunning, and the atmosphere is warm, cozy, and pleasant. Everything was clean, well presented, and visually impressive. The bar area is absolutely gorgeous, stylish, and very atmospheric. The cocktails were delicious The hotel grounds are very large. I believe that in summer this place must be especially enjoyable. The spa area is small. The water was warm, and there was a sauna and a steam room. The temperatures were comfortable and well balanced. That said, the swimming pool is very small, and the jacuzzi is also very small and almost always occupied. Cons I specifically booked a Deluxe Double Room (33 sqm), which was described this way on Booking.com at the time of reservation. However, we were initially accommodated in a small standard room with a connecting door to the neighboring room, which was a big disappointment. When I asked at reception why this happened, I did not receive a clear or professional explanation. I was told that all rooms are the same size and that only family rooms are larger. I can now see that the room size information on Booking.com has since been changed, which suggests there may have been an error in the original listing. However, this is clearly not the guest’s fault, and guests should not suffer because of such mistakes. After returning to the room, it became obvious that the soundproofing was extremely poor. Through the connecting door, we could clearly hear people in the neighboring room having loud sex. We returned to reception, where a different staff member offered us another room, but only for an additional charge, which we agreed to. As this stay was for my birthday, jubilee, this was a very unpleasant start and left a negative impression. Not only did we not receive the room we originally booked, but we also had to pay extra to get what should have been provided from the beginning. There was also no acknowledgment or attention to the fact that it was my special day. This was very disappointing, as I celebrate my birthday in hotels every year, in different cities and countries, and this was the first time I encountered such an indifferent attitude. In the spa area, we were given towels with dried blood stains, which raised serious concerns about hygiene. When we asked for replacement towels, the staff member changed them silently and with a visibly annoyed expression. Breakfast was also disappointing. The selection was very limited and basic, mostly a simple English breakfast set. There was only one coffee machine, which resulted in long queues. Overall, while the hotel itself is beautiful, the quality of service and overall experience was below expectations and closer to 3 out of 5 rather than the level suggested by the property.
A very enjoyable stay.
Beautiful location, easy to reach and close to Leeds. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We had interconnecting rooms for a larger family which was easy to arrange. We also arranged an accessible room for a family member with walking difficulties. The children were made welcome in the dining room and there were appropriate menu choices. Everything was clean and well maintained and excellent value for money. A very enjoyable stay.
Extremely helpful staff in dining room
A great dining experience enhanced by the front of house dining team. Great service by Izzy for drinks and I think another lady called Izzy as I was seated for dinner and ordered my food but could not get a signal on my phone, so I asked if it was not to late to move to an area of the room with a better wifi signal. They just told me it was not a problem and moved my drinks etc, so excellent service. Also Emma, who was at the dining reception who helped me out with a phone charger. The food was excellent also!
Spa break
We had this as a spa break, only 1 night, nice rooms, very clean, nice spa area and pool, friendly staff, lovely food the restaurant, service also excellent, especially the waitress Isla, who was so pleasant, helpful and professional, she made our meal experience wonderful, she deserves applauded, overall I would highly recommend this hotel
Amazing
Livvie was incredible and made my birthday treat extra special for me and my mum who she was really polite to. All staff are amazing
Fabulous stay for my birthday treat
Had a wonderful experience at Oulton hall for our stay in Jan. Felt so at home and relaxed and the room was beautiful, comfortable and luxurious. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and attentive and helped to make our stay extra special. The lovely girls who greeted us on reception, Ellie, made us feel very welcome and at home and Rhiannon gave us a lovely surprise and decorated the room with a balloon and chocolate for the birthday which was really kind and thoughtful. We had a lovely evening in the beautiful champagne bar followed by a delicious dinner in the restaurant and got a lovely cake and candle at the end of our meal and were very well looked after by all the staff, rounded of with a great big nights sleep and everything you could want for breakfast in the morning. Only wish I could move in and live there!
Special 2 night break
A wonderful 2 night stay for our ‘35 years together’ anniversary. We had a Superior Double room which was really spacious , clean and light. Beautiful walk in shower with a very imaginative photo wall . Toiletries were of a high quality and the complimentary minibar and robes were a nice bonus. The Spa was relaxing and the treatment I had was excellent - Elemis being my favourite facial product. We had drinks in the bar and lounge area which have been tastefully refurbished and are very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant both nights. The dining room was spacious, service was good and food also very good. So all in all it was a lovely break. My only negative points are that the hot food at breakfast was only like warm unless you managed to get things as they were refreshed. Also I do find QHotels billing very confusing and having experienced an overcharge at another of the hotels previously I checked it carefully! On this occasion it was correct but please Q Hotels…..make your billing clearer!
Excellent service
Excellent service from Imogen and team in the champagne bar. Lovely atmosphere for a bottle of wine, very relaxing. 5 stars.
Lovely hotel
Beautiful Hotel. Lovely decor throughout, nice bar and restaurant. Good parking facilities and electric car charging. Staff are friendly. Imogen was very helpful.
Family break
Beautiful Hotel, all the staff were amazing very helpful and polite. We had dinner in the Calverly grill food was 5 star. Relaxed in the Spa and went for a walk in the grounds. Overall great place worht a visit.
Good hotel, disabled parking is not accessible.
Amazing setting, loved the break. Negative... the disabled parking is up a steep hill, not accessible at all for those with mobility problems as you walk up or down a steep service road or use a flight of stairs to the leisure area. There weren't any blue badge holders parked in the disabled bays, all used up with luxury cars. There could be disabled parking outside the entrance BUT this is for wedding party users. The car park near the hotel could also be used as disabled parking. This really needs addressing. The leaflet given upon arrival states disabled parking at the hotel front BUT isn't. Please be aware, it is a steep access to and from the main entrance to the top general parking.
An interesting visit
My stay was comfortable and the staff were friendly.. Unfortunately there was confusion due to lack of communication at my arrival as I mentioned that I was expecting a guest. They did not tell me the guest had arrived and did not tell the guest that I had arrived. It was by accident after an hour that we met up.
Wonderful stay
We had a fantastic stay at Oulton Hall. From checking in to checking out, the staff were really friendly and helpful l. Excellent food and drink and super comfortable bedroom, including a lovely upgrade, thank you! Until next time !
