⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Masterclass in Hospitality – Thanks to Paul Bayliss & His Exceptional Team
From the moment I arrived at Oulton Hall Hotel & Spa, it was clear that this wasn’t just another stay — it was hospitality at its absolute finest, led by the outstanding General Manager, Paul Bayliss, and his remarkable team. You can feel the pride, professionalism, and genuine warmth that radiates from the staff. It’s rare to see a GM so visible, approachable, and hands‑on, but Paul sets the tone by being exactly that. He engages with guests personally, checks in to ensure everything is perfect, and brings an energy that lifts the entire atmosphere of the hotel. Every team member I encountered was friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. Nothing felt scripted or forced — just authentic, thoughtful service. Whether it was reception, the restaurant team, housekeeping, or the spa staff, everyone delivered with a smile and a sense of pride. The hotel itself is stunning, but what makes it truly special is the way the team brings it to life. The spa was immaculate and relaxing, the dining experience was beautifully executed, and the overall environment felt calm, welcoming, and meticulously cared for. It’s no surprise that the hotel runs so smoothly. Paul and his Team are professional, personable, and clearly committed to creating memorable experiences for every guest. His presence elevates the entire operation, and the team mirrors his high standards. If you’re looking for a stay where you feel genuinely valued, where the service is exceptional, and where the team clearly loves what they do, Oulton Hall Hotel & Spa should be at the top of your list. Paul and his team deliver a level of hospitality that is rare to find these days. I’ll absolutely be returning — and recommending Oulton Hall to everyone I know.
A superb Spa day to celebrate a special birthday.
Our Indulgence Spa day was excellent from checking in to leaving. The member of staff on reception was helpful, friendly, professional and efficient. The swimming pool and changing rooms were clean and well maintained. Following time in the pool we went for our pre-booked light lunch. Each course had a vegan option and the restaurant staff were able to "veganise" one of the non-vegan courses to help as the vegan option was not to one of our liking. Our chosen spa treatments were exceptional ànd carried out by expert staff who took full account of our ailments making our experience both enjoyable and relaxing. Many thanks to Melanie and Medina for ensuring that we left with our expectations exceeded. We would not hesitate to recommend one of these Spa days to friends and family. A genuinely 5 star day.
A great wee break
We had a wonderful one night break at Oulton Hall. We were greeted by Umir on reception and he was wonderfully effienct and helpful and went out of his way to be helpful. We had a light lunch in the drawing room and this relaxed, warm, comfortable with good food and very pleasant staff, although occasionally it was hard to find staff. The leisure facilitlies were OK. They were quiet while we were there which helped a lot. There are chairs down the sides of the pool but they felt a little squashed and not very realxing. The bedroom was lovely, spacious (just a standard room) with pleasent modern neutral decor. Again it was very warm, especially given it was freezing outside. Evening meal and breakfast were both in the restaurant and were both to a high standard. The staff were freindly and attentive. I am Gluten free and my Daughter has a nut allergy and these were both handled very well and there was a good choice of food available for both us. At breakfast there was even gluten free croissants available on request, which I've never had before. So an excellent break, and we will definatley be back.
Great spa hotel with lovely staff and facilities
The staff were always helpful friendly and on hand . The facilities are modern clean and luxurious. The bedrooms are spacious and quiet . We ate in the restaurant for dinner which was high quality food and great service . The breakfast buffet was varied and great selection the only thing was the cooked breakfast wasn’t very warm .
Liam Chris and Muhammad above and beyond
Chris , Liam and Muhammed are an asset to the buisness these guys all went out there way to make our stay pleasant, we had a issue with the room, (dusty) and was swapped with no hassle, the stay was nice, lovely establishment, the breakfast was good some good variety, again the pillars with decorative features in the breakfast room, was dusty and the rails for the carpet runner up the stairs needed attention (mending), the heat was unreal as the air-conditioning isnt turn on through winter months, but luckily the beautiful sash windows are easily opened and the radiators can be manually switched off, this wasnt much of an issue, after my little moan here, the building is stunning, lovely artifacts and stunning decor, the drawing room was most relaxing. With the minor things mentioned, its a stunning place, the leisure facilities are good for those who are wanting just a small work out, overall the staff and management are brilliant, no staff or attitude to fault, I mentioned those 3 names as they made our stay extra special and made time, out of there way (above and beyod) to sort or to make our evening amazing, so thank you guys, and thank you all for a lovely stay, only thing id say is a spring clean above doors, picture frames and the pillars in the breakfast room, 5*'s from us thank you all again.
A magnificent country house hotel: style and comfort
We stayed for one night only to break a journey from Scotland to the South of England, so have given a "Good" review, as opposed to "Excellent" on the basis that we didn't use any of the facilities. Oulton Hall certainly has the "wow" factor when driving up to the entrance and this carried through to the Hall itself. We were staying over the Christmas period and the Christmas trees/decorations were enchanting and magical. All of the public rooms are charming and comfortable. The receptionists were efficient and welcoming and our room also comfortable and well-appointed. Our "thing" when staying in a hotel is the quality of the bathroom and this one didn't disappoint: clean, well-equipped and well lit. The only TINY thing was insufficient light around the mirror for putting on make-up, but this is a minor niggle. The restaurant experience was very good: efficient service and a well cooked and presented dinner. Breakfast offered a good variety of choice, patisserie as well as hot. Some of the hot food could have been warmer. We will certainly visit again and for longer as a base for exploring the area.
Christmas and birthday gift stay
A wonderful hotel, with such welcoming and friendly staff and so beautifully decorated at Christmas time - simply magical. Our room was spacious and comfy and both my children had individual pull out beds. The breakfast was abundant and delicious - so much choice. We had a lovely dip in the pool and it was my birthday too and I was touched by the balloon and hand written card left on my bed for me - very much appreciated. Thank you to all the staff for another wonderful visit and we hope to back next year too.
A lovely experience to visit a beautiful building with ambience in a wonderful setting
I believe that Mrs Irene McNeil conveyed to you our sentiments of the New Year Evening stay. A wonderful evening except a disappointment with the meal. We are regular visitors and in the past have played golf a while ago. The distance - not to pop to - but well worth the journey usually
Good except we were refused entry to the Spa, as it was full when we arrived.
Overall it was a nice stay at Oulton Hall. However, the Spa was full when we arrived and we were refused entry. The only slot available was during our evening meal booking, so we missed out having a Spa, which was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel. When we did access the Spa in the morning before breakfast, the Steam Room was out of action.
Blissful 👌
Well what can i say, stayed here over christmas and it made a lasting impression. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special, and the place gives you that feeling like your in a chrismas film. From the decor and standard of the room, to the dining experience, service was impeccable, food amazing. A big thank you to all the team at oulton hall we will most definitly be returning for more of the same Thanks guys
Awesome NYE Experience!
I just wanted to comment on my experience whilst visiting Oulton Hall Golf & Spa Resort. I’ve been to a few locations purporting to be Golf & Spa resorts. Many have been good but Oulton Hall stands out just for its attention to detail. The decoration of Oulton Hall over this holiday period was simply fantastic, as was the service, the ambience and the staff, but the real star for me was the menu and the food! The food is the one thing that a lot of places, especially during holiday periods such as Christmas and the New Year, can be a bit ‘hit & miss.’ That was definitely NOT the case here. The menu was creative and its execution, what reached the plate, was nothing short of first class! 5 stars for me and I shall definitely visit again!
Oulton Hall was simply wonderful
Amazing few days at Oulton Hall, The staff and decoration for NYE were beyond our expectations. Coupled with very thoughtful front of house staff and an amazing new menu, creating some wonderful dishesThis won’t be our only visit. Thanks again to all the staff for a wonderful few days
A truly beautiful hotel
Really enjoyed my spa break, what a fantastic way to start the new year. A truly beautiful hotel, great room and food. Staff can’t do enough for you.
Residential Christmas Package 2025
Overall we enjoyed our 4 day stay over Christmas at Oulton Hall. We found the Christmas dinner was superb with good attentive service. We were very pleased with our country view room. The room it self was nicely laid out and very clean. There was a nice festive atmosphere within the hotel, also the staff were with very pleasant and helpful. However, we found the breakfast slightly disappointing. The actual food was of good quality but was spoilt often by being lukewarm, it was just down to luck if you caught the food hot or cold. This could be remedied by a more efficient hotplate to keep the food at a reasonable temperature. One final negative the dogs and their owners. Some irresponsible owners let their dogs sit with them on the sofas in the drawing room, it is not acceptable to have dog hair transferred to your clothing. Would we come back, yes if dogs were not allowed in the hotel, unless they have a specific designated area for the dogs and their owners.
A Memorable Time.
My wife and I spent a pre New Year couple of relaxing nights here after the rigours of Christmas and I have to say it was fantastic. The new food menu was excellent. The atmosphere, decoration and ambience of the hotel for Christmas and New Year was especially heart warming, the signs were obviously there that the hotel staffs and management had gone into a lot of effort to ensure our stay was a memorable one! We will probably re-book sometime in the spring. A memorable experience! Well done to all!
Super visit over new year 2026 💥
Had such a brilliant stay over new year. Very clean and cosy. What a great way to bring in the new year. The hotel looked absolutely fantastic and staff were great and attentive. The food was really nice i caught conversation that it was a new menu. If you have not visited oulton hall and in the area definitely worth a visit. Thanks so much Team Grice
Great venue, just a few tweaks needed
Communal areas well kept and decorated for Christmas. Room with separate beds for children was a good size. Room/bathroom was well appointed but a little tired in places. Single glazed windows were mouldy with mould also on the curtains. Breakfast buffet was good but only having one coffee machine for everyone to use wasn't great. Appreciate that kids need to be out of the pool so adults only for spa days etc but the 8-10am slot with breakfast also finishing at 10am meant it was a tight fit to do both. Out for the day so afternoon slot not used.
Some minor issues!
This was our second Christmas stay at Oulton Hall. As last year the hotel stay was amazing and nothing was too much trouble, so friendly. The hotel was stunning with the tree and decorations. We loved our superior room with the extra space for our Labrador. We do have a big but. Last year I emailed Mark Illingworth the then general manager regarding the bar not being able to make the drinks we wanted , an Amaretto sour , a snowball, or a gin fizz . Drinks we like at Christmas and on holiday and readily available elsewhere. Also there was no lemon for my gin and tonic ! They said they didn’t have egg whites or Advocaar. He said he would make sure the bar was better stocked. Also we ordered a red wine which they said wasn’t available so my husband asked if we could drink a bottle we bought with us charging a corkage fee . The waitress told us it would cost £76 ! Unbelievable ! They then bought the wine we originally asked for to the table . This was very disappointing and spoilt our meal to be honest . It lets the hotel down . I understand it isn’t important I feel we should just bring our own drinks next time to enjoy. I also felt the menu was very similar to last year and the buffet was terrible with other customers complaining. I know Mark is no longer manager . I don’t think these are major things to change so I will leave it with you to decide. Our stay was still very enjoyable and our dog loved the attention so thank you . I’m sure we will be returning in the future. Mrs Earl.
Excellent stay
Can't fault the location. Beautiful surroundings with lots of green landscape. Historical building is really charming. All staff ( reception, bar staff, restaurant and cleaning staff) really welcoming and friendly. Room was lovely and clean. Very quiet. No disturbances. Food was excellent over the 4 day Christmas break. Here are a few minor comments for consideration: 1. The hotel welcomes dog which is good for some people but when they are allowed on the lovely plush sofas, you have to question if it's a good idea. 2. Breakfast excellent but sauce in bottles doesn't really fit the profile of the place. 3. People tying shoe laces with their feet on beautiful sofas is annoying. 4. Breakfast plates too small. 5. My wife found the pillows lumpy. Don't know if they had a pillow service. Probably should have asked. 6. We found that the clearance of used glasses and plates after use was slow. 7. The chairs were moved in the great hall to accommodate the choir performance but we're not put back for a long time. 8. Insufficient hangers in the wardrobe 9. Queue for the one coffee machine at breakfast was long and slow moving. 10. Croissants could have been fresher. These are just points to consider as feedback. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay in an amazing hotel and will return. Special mention for Robbie, Yousef, Oliver, Amy and the young girl who dressed as an elf one day. Sadly I didn't get her name. They all gave excellent service. Thank you all.
